Yunus Sert makes 100th OHAFC appearance
Congratulations are due to former OHAFC 1st XI skipper Yunus Sert who made his 100th appearance for the club in the 1s' 2-1 win away to the Old Westminsters on Saturday morning.
Yunus, who captained the 1s in both the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, becomes the 16th player since official OHAFC stats began in 2009 to reach three figures for the club, although he may not be the last to reach the landmark this season - 1s teammate Cyprian Owen Edmunds is currently just three appearances short of three figures.
Yunus made his debut for the Club in the 2011/2012 season, alternating between the 2nd and 3rd XIs. He also played in the 1st XIs 8-0 thrashing of the Old Epsomians in the first round of the Arthur Dunn Cup.
His time at Durham meant he was seen only sporadically in the three years after that, but he returned to London and quickly established himself in the 1st XI. With then skipper Ed Poulter moving into midfield, Yunus formed a rock-solid partnership at centre-half with Fred Milln for the 2015/16 promotion season from Division One.
Yunus would himself be in charge of the 1s the next time they achieved promotion - a famous last-day win away to the Old Cholmeleians saw the Blues finish second in Division One, just pipping Lancing Old Boys in the race to return to the Premier Division.
Recent seasons have seen Yunus miss out on OHAFC action with a call up for national service back in his native Turkey. But he returned just after the start of the current season and immediately slotted back into the 1st XI back four, performing to consistently high level. The Blues will hopefully be able to call on Yunus' services for several seasons yet.
