Woolley tops Tour Weird List for 2015
Veteran tour weirdo Harry Woolley finally got his hands on the one prize missing from his extensive trophy cabinet last night when he was crowned winner of the OHAFC Tour Weird List for 2015.
Woolley, on his eighth tour, only secured the title on a tie-breaker, having tied with a score of 137 with Arjun Chopra - an average mark of 8.56 out of ten. Thanks to collecting five maximum scores from the rest of the tour party to Chopra's three, the 29 year-old ended the long wait for a title he has narrowly failed to collect in recent years.
The Tour Weird List began in 2010 in Antwerp and has become something of a tradition, with all tour party members awarding the rest of the squad a mark indicating just how weird they have been on tour. The total marks are added up and an average mark per person calculated. Previous tourists to have collected the prize include some vintage weirdos: Bobby Tindall, Charlie Reid, Jack Orr-Ewing and Fred Coleridge-Cole.
Woolley's comedic frame, pasty skin, strangely-aggressive dance moves and consistent Tinder use all marked him out from the crowd over the course of the weekend in Marbella and despite a solid performance on the pitch, he was heavily fancied prior to the voting process, which took place in Burger King, Malaga Airport.
David Lederman, veteran of 18 tours, finished a surprising third, with excellent debut showings from Chuka Ilogu (4th), Max Curry (5th - and another of the favourites after some late, very odd behaviour) and Alex 'Alright Son?' Smith (6th).
At the other end of the table, three more tour debutants showed they have much to do if they are going to be considered Weird List legends in the future with Charlie Walsh (15th), Dave Stead (16th) and Fraser McGuiness (17th) bringing up the rear.
The unofficial prize for weirdest individual moment on tour was generally agreed to have been won by tour leader Azhar Khan. On the third afternoon he was thanked for his efforts by the rest of the tour party and thrown into the villa swimming pool fully clothed. He then took the somewhat odd decision to casually strip naked on the terrace, lingering to ensure everyone could see him, before walking inside, no doubt to do something even weirder. When asked later why he had behaved in this manner, no credible explanation was put forward. The subsequent photos that came to light proved only one thing: the swimming pool was clearly very cold indeed.
