Win "like a training match" for confident Harrow

18 Feb 2015

A mixed squad of 1s and 2s earned a resounding, confidence boosting victory at Artillery Lane on Tuesday night.

Ed Poulter’s side returned to winning ways after stuttering in recent weeks with losses in the Premier League and Dunn Cup to high flyers Forest. Having decided to accept the challenge of local team “The Whites” at the last minute, Harrow cobbled together a well balanced team on a chilly night, with the squad crippled by the mouth-watering prospect of Chelsea vs PSG in the Champions League.

Poulter (C) – Molloy – Gordon – v Hirsch – W. Orr-Ewing – Lederman – Khan – Breedon

On the opposition side – J. Orr-Ewing

Breedon and Molloy looked to create most of the opportunities for the home side, with Lederman supporting from the right. Breedon, returning from spending his gap year working at La Folie Douce, struggled in front of goal, and rarely managed to get beyond the powerfully built Celt at right back.

At the back, Poulter marshalled his back line with a calm serenity that flowed through his troops, assuring them at all time that he had everything covered.

Having taken the lead with a well taken goal, the Whites came back into the game with some marvellous build up play exposing the Harrow men. However, as their superior fitness and organisation told through, Harrow romped to an 8-1 win. Jack Orr-Ewing therefore suffered the ignominy of back to back 8-1 losses, and will take little-to-no confidence into his next fixture.

The game also saw the return of Conti v Hirsch. Having seen his younger brother Tassilo being groomed by 1s skipper Poulter, Conti returned early from his extended winter break and announced his comeback by showing how long he could stand around with his foot on top of the ball without being tackled or passing it. Will Orr-Ewing looked back to his best after a number of weeks with a aching knee; with a slew of defenders returning to the 1s squad for the season run-in, Poulter will have some difficult decisions to make with everyone available.
