Weekend Round-Up: 3s suffer agonising defeat
There were frustrating defeats for both the 1st and 3rd XIs on Saturday.
In appalling stormy conditions on the Hill, the OHAFC 1s were beaten 3-0 by the Old Chigwellians in Division One. A dour first half an hour saw the hosts battle against a strong wind to restrict Chigs to a couple of half chances. But a pair of minor defensive lapses five minutes apart allowed the visitors to seize a grip on the game and they led 2-0 at the break.
The OHAFC created a few chances in the second half, helped in their cause when the Chigs skipper was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes for arguing with the referee. But the visitors held firm and a late breakaway goal made sure of the points. The OHAFC remain in eighth in the table.
Over in east London, the OHAFC 3s came within fifteen minutes of a superb win away to a strong Old Westminsters 2s side only to see all three points slip through their grasp in the final ten minutes.
A slow start on the astro at Bacon College Community Sports Centre saw the hosts forge an early 2-0 lead. But superb goals from Adam Graham and James Walduck levelled matters just before the break.
The 3s enjoyed the better of the second half but had to wait until the 75th minute to take the lead for the first time in the game, Adam Graham converting from the spot after a foul on Ed Stewart.
But under mounting pressure in the closing stages, the hosts couldn't hold on, conceding twice in the final ten minutes to allow Westminsters to take all three points. The 3s now sit sixth in Division Four following points deductions for two of the other teams in the division.
Team sheets and match reports from both games are now available in the results section.
