Weekend Round-Up: 3s ease relegation fears

25 Feb 2025

Both the OHAFC 1s and 3s added to their points tallies for the season on a positive weekend of action for the club.

The OHAFC 1st XI were granted the privilege of playing on the Sunley Field on Saturday morning and responded by securing a dramatic late point against the promotion-chasing Old Kimboltonians in Division One of the Arthurian League.

In a tight game, the visitors took the lead with twenty minutes remaining when a defensive mix-up allowed a midfielder to chip keeper Tom Mitchell from thirty yards out. This appeared to have been the only goal as time ticked over the ninety minutes, but striker George Taylor pounced as the visitors' keeper spilled a corner to fire home from close range and ensure the Blues at least earned a share of the spoils. Taylor was then sent off for a second booking having kicked the ball away at a free-kick.

Later on Saturday afternoon, the OHAFC 3rd XI earned a valuable 3-1 win away to the Old Shirburnians down on the astroturf in Hampton. Keeper Rory Craig made a couple of vital saves and both sides hit the bar in an entertaining and even first half.

But after the break, the visitors surged ahead, the returning Dan Abu connecting with a Lederman corner to open the scoring before tapping in from close range after good work from Freddie Everett. In between, the roles were reversed as Abu teed up Everett to volley in and ensure a late Shirburnians effort was no more than a consolation.

Both the 1st and 3rd XIs remain in difficulties in the lower reaches of their respective divisions with work to be done to ensure relegation is avoided.
