Weekend Round-Up: 3s earn their first win of the season
The OHAFC 3rd XI tasted victory for the first time this season on Saturday and the 1s backed up last week's fine Dunn Cup win with a narrow 1-0 win in the League - but the 2s suffered a disappointing second consecutive defeat on a busy weekend of Arthurian League football.
Even at this relatively early stage in the season, the 3s home fixture against the struggling Old Johnians 2s appeared to be a must-win game at the foot of Division Four. Thankfully, the OHAFC responded in style, with goals from Matthew Ede, Ed Stewart, James Walduck, Alex Kenderdine-Davies and Adam Graham, from the spot, ensuring a comfortable first win of the campaign.
The 3s climb above their opponents into eighth in the Division Four table.
There was also success for the OHAFC 1st XI on the adjacent Phil pitch, a second half Ollie Atkinson strike proving sufficient to scrape past the Old Marlburians. The OHAFC have now won three of their past four games to hopefully signify something of a revival. The team sit eighth in Division One, still with plenty of work to do.
But the OHAFC 2nd XI, having remained one of the last unbeaten sides in the entire League, suffered a second consecutive defeat away to the Old Haberdashers in Boreham Wood. The visitors looked like they had fought their way out of a tricky spot when goals from Tristan David and Miles Kellock (two) overturned a poor start that saw the hosts race into a 2-0 lead.
But the final half-hour saw Habs raise their intensity to a level the Blues could not cope with and four goals gave the hosts a deserved 6-3 win that sees the OHAFC drop to fourth in Division Three - their lowest position since the opening weekend of the season.
