Weekend Round-Up: 2s end winless run in style
The OHAFC 2nd XI ended their winless run of five games in style on Saturday, but there was further disappointment for the 3rd XI, who now face a mountain to climb to avoid the drop into Division Five.
On the astroturf at King’s House in Chiswick, the OHAFC 2s made light work of third-placed Old Berkhamsteds 2s with a blistering final half-hour that saw the Blues score four times to register a superb 6-1 victory. Leading scorer Andy Hutchinson scored twice in the first half to earnt the visitors a deserved lead, but the hosts pulled one back from a set-piece on the stroke of half-time.
But the visitors continued to play with aggression and quality in the second half and once Alexi Pittalis headed in with half an hour remaining, there was only likely to be one winner. Further efforts from Geoff Taunton-Collins, Miles Kellock and Cyprian Owen Edmunds crowned the 2s’ best performance of the season and put a serious dent in their opponents’ promotion hopes.
Earlier, on Harrow Hill, the news wasn’t so palatable however as the 3s slipped to a 5-2 defeat at home to Old Brentwoods 3s in a vital clash for both sides. On a sticky pitch on the Phil, the morning got off to a dreadful start, the hosts conceding inside a minute. Defensive failings were a feature of the first half for both teams, with Brentwoods leading 4-2 at the break, Alfie Hayes and James Walduck with the Harrow goals.
Following a fairly cagey opening to the second half, the visitors scored a decisive fifth goal on the break and the morning ended in horrible fashion for the home side when midfielder Luke Berry landed heavily on his knee and crumpled to the turf in significant pain. He is unlikely to play again for many months. The OHAFC 3s have just three fixtures remaining to save their season and are likely to have to win two of them to have any chance of staying up.
Team sheets and match reports from both games are now available in the results section.
