Weekend Round-Up: 1s sink Etonians at the death
Finally, at the sixth time of asking this year, an OHAFC side has tasted victory – and what a win it was! The OHAFC 1st XI, struggling in the lower reaches of Division One, produced a superb display on the Harrow astroturf to defeat the Old Etonians 3-2, Jack Dolbey the hero with an 89th minute winner.
The hosts recovered from a 1-0 half-time deficit to lead through goals from Andres Hutchinson and Arthur Leney and, with time ticking into the final ten minutes, appeared set fair for a memorable first victory in six years against their oldest rivals. But in a crazy final five minutes midfielder Charlie Bick was sent off for a second bookable offence and the Etonians immediately took advantage, scoring from a quick breakaway.
The visitors poured forwards in search of a winner in the final few minutes but, in a truly dramatic twist, left themselves vulnerable at the back and, with ninety seconds remaining, allowed Jack Dolbey to steal in at the far post to fire home at the second attempt after the Eton keeper had made a superb block from the original shot.
Victory lifts the Blues into fourth in the table, their highest League position of the season, and with five games remaining should allow the side to push for a top-half finish for the first time since returning to Division One in the 2022/23 season.
