Weekend Round-Up: 1s and 2s continue to struggle
It was very much a case of rinse and repeat for the club with a second consecutive weekend producing defeats for both the 1st and 2nd XIs.
The 1s suffered an unexpected 4-2 defeat away to the struggling Wykehamists, a side they put six past back in November. A disastrous spell midway through the first half saw the home side score three in quick succession, the Blues all over the place at the back. Goals either side of the break from Jasper Gray and Tom Ward reduced the arrears to just one, but the home side hit back almost immediately and, in an increasingly fractious second half, Cam Mahal was sent off for lashing out at an opponent to end any faint hopes of a comeback. The 1s drop back to seventh in Division One.
Back on the Hill, the OHAFC 2nd XI worryingly slumped to a third consecutive defeat, losing 3-2 on the Phil to their KCS Wimbledon counterparts. Despite a fairly dominant first half an hour, the hosts fell behind just before the break to practically Wimbledon’s first chance of the game, a cross from the left wing volleyed in at the far post. Substitute Freddie Everett levelled matters on the hour mark, tapping in a cross from Andy Hutchinson, but again the Blues conceded against the run of play, another cross from the left allowing a free header. Worse was to follow as the visitors scored a third with a quarter of an hour remaining, yet again the Blues caught by a quick Wimbledon break. Although Max Curry pulled one back in the final ten minutes, the hosts couldn’t force a draw and must now face up to the prospect of trying to collect enough points to ensure they are not dragged into a relegation scrap.
