Weekend Round-Up: 1s and 2s both suffer defeat

14 Jan 2026

A rather dispiriting weekend for the club saw both the 1s and 2s fall to defeat in very different circumstances.

The 1st XI put up a decent fight against the unbeaten Division One leaders the Old Ardinians on the Hill, but the visitors eventually ran away with a comfortable 4-0 victory on the Harrow astroturf. The result could have been very different had the home side taken some of their very presentable chances created before the interval. But having survived the first forty-five minutes unscathed, the Ardinians then eased away after the break, taking advantage of an error to break the deadlock before a superb individual effort doubled the lead. Two late goals gave the scoreline a rather unjust look.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XI were involved in a much closer but equally frustrating defeat away to the Old Carthusians 2s in Acton. The hosts started superbly, overwhelming their opponents and scoring a deserved goal after ten minutes. But the Blues hung in the game and improved as the half wore on, Owain James firing home an equaliser after half an hour with a low shot under the keeper from a narrow angle.

The second half was an even affair with both sides enjoying spells on top until, with twenty minutes remaining, a rush of blood saw keeper Rory Craig hare off his line and clatter into a Carthusian forward ten yards outside the box. Referee Denis Hasanaj took his time before producing a red card and the visitors found themselves down to ten men. The Blues held out as best they could, but with two minutes remaining their resistance finally cracked and the Charterhouse striker fired home through a crowd of bodies from the edge of the box.

The 2s remain in sixth in Division Two but are now on a winless run of five matches in all competitions and must turn their form around quickly, beginning with the visit of KCS Wimbledon 2s to the Hill next weekend.

Team sheets and match reports from the two fixtures are now available in the results section.
