Weekend Round-Up: 1s & 2s both secure vital wins
Both the OHAFC 1st and 2nd XIs recorded vital wins on Saturday, the 1s easing clear of relegation trouble in Division One, the 2s keeping themselves firmly in the mix for promotion in Division Three.
A Doug Morrison goal just before the half-hour mark and some excellent defending proved enough for the 1s to earn a 1-0 win over the Old Radleians on the Hill. In a crunch clash between two sides in the bottom half of the table, the Harrow man raced onto a flick from Ciaran Jordan to round the keeper and fire in from a narrow angle for what proved the only goal of the game.
The Radleians hit the bar from long range and keeper Fraser McGuinness pulled off a couple of excellent saves but the home side also spurned opportunities to increase their lead, the solitary goal eventually proving just about enough.
The Blues climb into sixth in the table following the win, their highest League position of the season.
Meanwhile on the adjacent Phil pitch the OHAFC 2nd XI enjoyed a rather more comfortable win over the Old Chigwelians 2s, securing a 4-2 victory that owed much to an excellent first half performance. Ed Stewart and Giacomo Grasso both scored early goals from corners and the Blues dominated up to half-time.
The second half proved more of a struggle, the visitors pulling a goal back almost immediately. Harrow keeper Rory Craig pulled off two superb saves to maintain the lead but a third goal from skipper Tristan David with a quarter of an hour remaining secured the win. Although Chigs scored a second with just a few minutes remaining, substitute Matthew Ede had the final word, scoring in the final moments.
The 2s sit fourth in Division Three ahead of next week’s crunch clash at home to the side just above them in the table, the Old Sennockians.
