Weekend Round-Up: 1s claim superb point vs Ardinians
The only OHAFC fixture of the weekend saw the 1st claim a deserved point at home to the Old Ardinians on the astroturf.
Having already faced their opponents twice this season, once in the League and once in the Dunn Cup, this third fixture was the 'decider' - the Ardinians won comfortably in Gunnersbury in the League in late September, but the OHAFC replied with a fine win on the Phil in the Dunn Cup.
And the third part of the trilogy lived up to its billing as the Blues led in each half, only to be pegged back by their opponents. George Taylor opened the scoring after twenty minutes, collecting Will Payne's cross before turning and finding the bottom corner. The visitors levelled five minutes into the second half, catching the hosts napping at a corner.
But the Blues responded with a superb second, Ed Beecham firing a long ball over the top for Alfie Hayes to run onto and bury in the top corner on the half- volley. Back came the Ardinians, levelling matters for the second time in the game just five minutes later with a well-worked move that ended with the ball being cut back from the goal line and although Fraser McGuinness saved the first effort, the rebound was snaffled by an attacker.
There was still time for some late drama as Harrow skipper Dan Firoozan hit the crossbar with a stooping header just a minute from time, but the Ardinians escaped and both sides had to settle for a point. The Blues stay seventh in Division One.
