Weekend Round-Up: Mixed fortunes to end the year
The final weekend of Arthurian League football in 2023 saw mixed results for the OHAFC 1st and 2nd XIs.
The 1s recorded an excellent 2-1 win away to the Old Westminsters on the astroturf in Rotherhithe. The victory owed much to a superb first-half display that saw the Blues dominate, Will Payne capping off a fine individual performance with two goals. The second half proved a far more even contest, Westminsters pulling a goal back with twenty minutes remaining. But the visitors held on despite a nervy final few minutes and can look forward to their remaining six games in the League with optimism - the Blues sit in fifth in the Division One table heading into the new year.
But the OHAFC 2nd XI fell to a second consecutive 2-0 defeat, this time on a poor pitch in Roehampton away to KCS Wimbledon 2s. The Blues enjoyed the better of both halves but lady luck was decidedly against them - the side hitting the bar twice and post once - before two goals in the space of ten minutes midway through the second half saw the hosts snatch the win.
The 2s sit in fourth in the Division Three table, still with very realistic hopes of claiming promotion. But with only five League games remaining there is now little room for manoeuvre.
Team sheets and match reports from the final pair of OHAFC fixtures this year are now available in the results section.
The 1st and 3rd XIs return to action on January 6th, the 2s must wait a further week before playing again.
