Weekend Round-Up: Late goals boost 1s & 3s hopes
It prove a dramatic and ultimately successful weekend for the OHAFC, with the 1s and 2s securing vital wins and the 3s scraping a draw away to Lancing 2s courtesy of an injury-time goal from skipper Ed Nicholson.
The 1st XI badly needed to beat the Old Foresters on the Hill and appeared to be heading for the three points courtesy of a first OH goal for Ciaran Jordan. But the visitors headed home a corner in the 89th minute, shattering Harrow hearts. There was still time for one further twist in the tale however, when the Blues raced up the other end and Dan Firoozan unselfishly squared for Doug Morrison to tap in the winner with just three minutes of added time remaining.
The OHAFC 3s left it even later to secure a point away to Lancing 2s, skipper Ed Nicholson heading home an Adam Graham free-kick in the final moments to earn a 2-2 draw down in Tolworth. Dan Graham had earlier cancelled out Lancing's opener, but a defensive mix-up with twenty minutes remaining appeared to have cost the Blues a point. The draw ensures the Blues maintain a six-point advantage over their opponents in the Division Four table with the return fixture to come in a fortnight.
It proved rather more plain sailing for the 2s, who produced an excellent performance to comfortably beat Old Merchant Taylors 3-0 on Phil 2. Despite missing several good chances to score in the first half, early second half goals from Max Curry and Tristan David set the Blues on their way, a late Alexi Pittalis goal adding further gloss to the scoreline.
