Weekend Round-Up: Berry injury adds to disastrous day
3rd XI midfielder Luke Berry suffered a dislocated knee and all three sides lost badly on a disastrous day for the club.
Luke challenged for a high ball with ten minutes remaining of the 3s' fixture away to the Old Berkhamstedians 2s on the astroturf in Chiswick but landed awkwardly, twisting his knee and collapsing to the ground in severe pain. Once it was established that he could not be moved and an ambulance had been called, both sides agreed to shake hands on the 6-0 scoreline in the hosts' favour. Five of the six goals were long-range efforts from well outside the box.
Fortunately, once the paramedics had reduced the pain somewhat, the knee twisted back into place and Luke was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for x-rays and further tests.
Earlier on the same pitch, the OHAFC 1s had fared no better, suffering a 7-1 humbling at the hands of a strong Old Salopians outfit. The Blues were unfortunate to concede a dubious early penalty for handball and a second just before the break doubled the hosts' advantage.
The visitors battled after the break but were twice caught on the break and although Charlie Bick converted from the spot for the Blues, three further Salops goals, the last an absolutely superb individual effort, gave the scoreline a very one-sided look.
Although the OHAFC 2s' margin of defeat was only two goals, the 2nd XI losing 2-0 at home to Haberdashers on the Harrow School astroturf, the sense of frustration was just as acute. A fairly even first half saw the sides go into the break level with all to play for. But the home side then produced arguably their poorest forty-five minutes of the season, Habs earning the points with two well-taken goals sourced from their left wing.
Team sheets and match reports from all three games are now available in the results section.
The club have two fixtures remaining before Christmas, the 1s and 2s both away from home next weekend.
