Weekend Round-Up: All three sides suffer defeat

20 Nov 2022

A tumultuous week saw all three OHAFC sides scrambling for players right up until kick-off on Saturday morning, so it was hardly a surprise that three defeats soon followed, albeit in vastly different circumstances.

The 1st XI could consider themselves the most unfortunate as they dominated the Old Westminsters for long spells on the Phil only to somehow lose the game 2-0. The Blues missed a string of chances, including a first-half penalty, and were twice caught on the break by the visitors. Defeat leaves the 1s in ninth in Division One with plenty of work to do to ensure survival come the end of the season.

The 2s travelled to the recently re-laid astroturf in Whitton to take on Division Two leaders the Old Radleians, but were hamstrung almost immediately in their efforts when centre-back Felix Orchard received a straight red card just ten minutes into the game for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Despite performing creditably with ten men, the visitors conceded twice before the break and, having almost pulled a goal back when Max Curry's shot hit the crossbar, twice more early in the second half, finishing the game with a 5-0 loss.

The 3s faced the Old Ardinians 2s on the same pitch immediately afterwards and battled hard to go in at the break level at 2-2. Freddie Everett and Luke Berry twice gave the Blues the lead, only for the hosts to twice equalise via their tall striker.

The second half proved a cagey affair, with the Ardinians snatching the win with a breakaway goal with twenty minutes remaining. Felix Tritton came close to earning the visitors a point, his long-range effort crashing against the post before rebounding to safety.

Team sheets and match reports from all three games are now available in the results section.
