Weekend Round-Up: 3s scrape into DW Trophy QFs
The OHAFC 3rd XI needed extra-time and a dramatic late goal from Alvin Adefarasin to scrape past Lancing Old Boys 2s in the second round of the DW Trophy on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors took the lead early on, Alfie Hayes racing through to finish in style for his first ever OHAFC goal. But Lancing improved after the break and forced extra-time following a scrambled effort from a corner (pictured).
The Blues took the lead in the first period of the extra half-hour from an unlikely source: Fraser McGuinness, usually found in goal for the 1s, converting a corner with a superb cushioned volley at the far post.
It appeared as though penalties would be required to separate the sides when the hosts levelled from another set-piece with seven minutes remaining, but Adefarasin had other ideas, latching onto a through-ball to coolly beat the last defender before slotting under the advancing keeper.
The 3s' reward for their last-gasp win is a home tie against Division Five leaders the Old Westminsters 2s in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, back on the Hill, a vastly depleted 1st XI had a morning to forget at home to the Old Foresters in Division One.
Missing numerous regulars, the Blues ended the game soundly beaten, the 8-0 scoreline an embarrassing reflection of the lack of commitment from the squad on this particular occasion.
