Weekend Round-Up: 3s reach DWT quarter-finals
The OHAFC 3rd XI reached the quarter-finals of the David Woolcott Trophy on Saturday, holding on to beat the Old Cheltonians 3-2 on the Hill.
Following a goalless first half, three goals in quick succession saw the Blues take a commanding lead. Charlie Dunn scored direct from a corner, Freddie Everett volleyed in Khalil Baoku's cross and Dan Graham then scored with a long range effort from thirty yards out.
But the hosts were made to work for their victory when the Cheltonians then scored twice in five minutes themselves. Fortunately, there was no late drama and the Blues must now wait until this weekend to discover their next opposition in the competition, either the Old Kingstonians or Old Canfordians.
Meanwhile, on the adjacent Phil pitch, the OHAFC 2s found themselves involved in an entertaining 4-4 draw against the Old Brentwoods 2s. The hosts took an early lead, Max Curry converting a long ball from David Lederman. Owain James then ran onto Rory Craig's booming goal kick to double the advantage. Brentwoods pulled a goal back on the break, but Yunus Sert then volleyed in at the far post from a corner to see the Blues into half-time with a 3-1 lead.
The visitors again reduced the arrears to just one but up popped Sert again to once more score from a corner, this time with a super shot on the turn. At 4-2 up with twenty minutes remaining the points appeared set to stay on the Hill. But Brentwoods had other ideas and turned their second half dominance into goals as they struck twice late on to earn a share of the spoils.
Team sheets and reports from both games are now available in the results section.
