Weekend Round-Up: 2s undone by disputed late goal
The OHAFC 2nd XI suffered a cruel late blow on Saturday afternoon, succumbing to an 87th minute winner from the Old Chigwellians 2s that involved a handball just prior to the goal being scored. In a tightly-contested fixture on the Harrow School astroturf, the hosts opened the scoring when Alexi Pittalis finished a rebound following a save from a Tristan David effort. Chigs levelled from a free-kick shortly afterwards, the cross headed in from close range.
Neither side really threatened to win the game, but that was until the closing moments and a final corner for Chigs that produced the decisive goal: the ball dropped in the six yard box and the scorer prodded the ball in having ushered it forwards with an arm. The referee was unsighted and the goal stood, much to Harrovian dismay.
The 3rd XI could not feel so hard done by, although they too produced a decent enough display at home to Division Four leaders the Old Albanians. A sloppy start to the early 10.15am KO saw the visitors race into a two-goal lead and dominate the opening stages.
The hosts gradually worked their way into the game, but an error from a corner allowed the Albanians to score a third and despite Dan Graham pulling one back shortly afterwards, the Blues left themselves with too much to do in the second half.
The Albanians held on to claim a 3-1 win and consign the 3s to a fifth League defeat of the season.
