Weekend Round-Up: 2s and 3s exit Junior League Cup
The OHAFC were brought back down to Earth with a bump this week following last weekend's excellent pair of victories. Both the 2nd and 3rd XIs were knocked out of the Junior League Cup at the first time of asking whilst the 1s fell to a 4-0 defeat at home to League leaders the Old Johnians.
The 1st XI competed well against a side they had drawn 2-2 with back in November but trailed 2-0 at the break following a breakaway goal and a penalty. It was a similar story in the second half, the home side enjoying plenty of the ball but conceding twice late on to give the scoreline a rather undeserved look.
The 2s travelled to the Old Brentwoods Club in Essex for what appeared a winnable first round tie against the hosts' 3rd XI only to suffer a 4-2 defeat. The first half provided plenty of incident and four goals: the visitors took the lead when Tristan David curled a long free-kick over the keeper but the hosts hit back from the penalty spot and then from a free-kick. But the Blues levelled before half-time, Miles Kellock finishing adroitly on the half-turn following David's pass.
The second half was more scrappy but the tie was decided late on: David fired a spot-kick against the post following a foul on Kellock before the hosts scored from a corner and then, as the Blues sent men forwards in search of the equaliser, took advantage of a counter to earn a crucial fourth.
The 3s also faced a long journey but never seemed likely to shock Division Three side the Old Sennockians, the hosts running out 5-0 winners against a tiring Harrow eleven. The 3s still have their main Cup competition, the David Woolcott Trophy, to come with the first round scheduled for early February.
Team sheets and match reports from all three games are now available in the results section.
