Weekend Round-Up: 1s secure vital first win of season
The OHAFC 1st XI finally got off the mark this season with a much needed victory at home to the Old Rugbeians, whilst the 2s kept their unbeaten record in tact and there was penalty heartache for the 3s down in Chiswick.
The 1s badly needed a win against the Rugbeians on the Hill to kickstart their season and a first-half brace from striker George Taylor put them in the driving seat. The visitors did pull a goal back but substitute Ollie Atkinson restored the two-goal lead with a fine volley and although the Rugbeians scored again to apply some late pressure, the Blues held on for the win, despite a late red card for George Gould.
The OHAFC 2s lost top spot in Division Three following a tense 0-0 draw at home to the Old Berkhamstedians 1s, but could be pleased with their morning's work in their toughest test of the season so far. The visitors, who arrived on the Hill also protecting an unbeaten record, enjoyed the better of the first half, hitting the post with a superb volley from the edge of the box. But the 2s rallied after the break and looked the likelier of the two sides to snatch the win, Miles Kellock wasting the best opportunity with fifteen minutes remaining. Both sides had to settle for a point, the 2s now dropping to second in the table.
But the wait for points continues for the OHAFC 3rd XI who fell to two second half penalties away to the Old Amplefordians - both for handball - on the astroturf in Chiswick. The visitors played well in the first half but failed to take their chances, Adam Graham coming closest when he volleyed wide having been played through on goal. But the home side improved after the break and were gifted victory with two penalties - the first slightly contentious after the ball was driven against Tom Mitchell's arm from close range, the second totally bizarre as substitute James Cullimore literally caught the ball inside the box thinking it had gone out of play. The OHAFC 3s are now one of just three sides in the Arthurian League without a point to their name - the others being the Old Foresters in the Premier Division and the Old Oundelians in Division Five.
