Weekend Round-Up: 1s earn fine point at champions
A makeshift OHAFC 1st XI produced a fine performance to earn a hard-fought point away to Premier Division champions the Old Carthusians on Saturday morning.
Skipper Ed Beecham gave the visitors a surprise lead after a quarter of an hour when he collected a low cross from the left, swivelled and fired a low shot straight past the keeper. It took the hosts a while to get going, but their equaliser typified the quality that has taken them to numerous League and Cup titles over the past fifteen years, a flowing move that ended with a cross from the right being headed in from the penalty spot.
A poor goal kick from keeper Harison Saunders then gifted the hosts the lead prior to the break and the Blues had to hang on in the second half against some strong Carthusian pressure. But their efforts paid off when Ciaran Jordan fired in a powerful low shot from twenty-five yards out with a quarter of an hour remaining. And Saunders then made up for his earlier error with a superb late save to preserve parity and earn the visitors an unlikely point.
Saturday’s teamsheet and match report are now available in the results section. The 1st XI have one fixture remaining this season, away to the Old Bradfieldians on April 9th.
