Vets Cup hopes ended for another season

12 Feb 2025

The OHAFC Veterans were eliminated from the Plate competition at the quarter-final stage on Sunday morning following a 7-3 defeat at home to the Old Wellingtonians on the Harrow School astroturf.

Despite naming a strong squad of thirteen for a first ever meeting between the sides at this level, the hosts endured a nightmare start to the tie, conceding three goals inside barely a quarter of an hour - some rank bad luck and some sloppy play gifting the visitors a lead they never really looked likely to waste.

The home side did show some fight in the latter stages of the half, goals from Alex Cater, Harry Hoffen and skipper David Lederman, who had earlier missed a penalty, reducing the deficit to 5-3 at the break.

But the second half followed a very different pattern with neither side looking like scoring until late on, the visitors taking advantage of some tiring Harrow legs to score twice more, confirming their place in the semi-finals and a home tie against the Old Cholmeleians.

The OHAFC Vets will play once more this season, the annual memorial game for Dominic Danos being arranged for the spring.
