Valiant 3s fall to table-topping Bancroftians

OHAFC III 2 Old Bancroftians 5

The first game back after the festive break was always going to be tricky for the OHAFC III’s, even more so playing top of the table Bancroftians, equipped with not only a manager but also a player coach.

The game could not have got off to a worse start with Harrow conceding within the first five minutes, something that has happened far too often this season.

Although a goal down Harrow moved the ball around nicely at the back. Chuka Ilogu clipped a brilliant ball through to Fred Parry who crossed to Fogarty who’s header was saved by the Bancroft keeper.

Bancroft then scored two in quick succession, both superb long-range efforts which looped wickedly in the air over the unlucky McHardy.

The second half started at a frantic pace, with Harrow flying out the traps trying to lessen the 3-0 deficit. The more attacking mindset meant Harrow were vulnerable to counter attacks, resulting in a Bancroft cross come shot somehow ending up in the back of the net.

Harrow heads didn’t drop and hit back instantly with a quick fire double, Smith glancing in off a brilliant Beeley free-kick. Straight after the restart Ned Callander won the ball in midfield and threaded through a pinpoint pass to Smith who finished calmly past the gum shield wearing Bancroft stopper. Ludo Callander later pointed out that the 'keeper possessed the best set of teeth he'd seen on the Arthurian League circuit.

4-2... Squeaky bum time! Harrow sensed a come back and bombarded the Bancroft box in the last ten minutes of the game. Bancroft resisted the pressure well and broke away again and put the game to bed past the tiring Harrow defence.

A valiant effort by Fogarty's men against a team that is likely to rise through the Arthurian League divisions over the coming seasons.
