Phil Berry reaches 100 cap landmark
2nd XI defender and OHAFC stalwart Phil Berry last week became just the second member of the Club to reach the 100 appearance mark since records began in the 2009/10 season.
Fittingly, Phil reached the landmark playing on the Hill for the 2's, the team he has spent the vast majority of his OHAFC career playing for. Not only that, but he enjoyed a successful outing too, playing in Alex Smith after just five minutes to set the Blues on their way to an excellent 6-2 win over Brentwood's second string.
Phil began playing for the Club in the 2004/5 season and quickly established himself as a reliable performer, capable of playing in a variety of positions in defence and midfield.
His superb aerial ability that allowed him to regularly out-jump players much taller than him soon earned him the nickname 'The Salmon' and he has chipped in with some vital goals in his time - none more so than a superb left-foot volley against Charterhouse in the 2011 Junior League Cup final that set the OHAFC 2's on their way to a famous comeback win. Phil also played the whole of the final the following season when the result wasn't quite so favourable.
Phil's consistency and ability to play in either full-back position saw him called up to the 1st XI on a number of occasions and he acquitted himself well, earning a regular position in the side in the 2013/14 season when he played 16 times for the senior squad.
Phil has now returned to the 2nd XI and continues to perform with great consistency, as well as providing almost unrivalled commitment to the OHAFC cause.
Many congratulations from all at the Club to Phil for reaching the 100 appearance milestone over the last seven seasons.
