Phil Berry suffers broken wrist in Lancing defeat

2s stalwart Phil Berry, who missed most of last season with badly torn ankle ligaments, suffered another extremely unfortunate injury on Saturday when he landed awkwardly on his arm, fracturing his wrist in the 2s' defeat away to Lancing 2s in Kingston.

Phil was taken to hospital by Fred and Jackie Woolley - who had to perform a similar task with concussed skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins last weekend - and despite having the arm placed in a cast, Phil returned to hospital on Sunday morning to have the fracture reset under general anaesthetic.

The cast will remain on Phil's arm for two weeks but he is likely to be out of action for a while after that as the healing process continues.

It is remarkably bad luck for Phil, who over the past decade has made the second highest number of appearances for the club and been a consistently solid performer for both the 1st and 2nd XI's.

Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back in action as soon as possible.
