Today we take a look back at the last six years' worth of games for the three OHAFC teams on this weekend...

Six Seasons Ago: October 17th 2009

Old Cholmeleians 0 OHAFC 1st XI 3: A fine win for the Harrow 1’s in north London with the side in dominant form, completing their third win in as many games. Goals from skipper Quentin Baker, Piers Bourke (his second in three games) and substitute Olly Hadden-Paton earned the Blues a comfortable win against normally tricky opponents.

Five Seasons Ago: October 16th 2010

Old Chigwellians 0 OHAFC 1st XI 3: An excellent afternoon’s work from the 1st XI with a superb display on the pitch rewarded with an excellent post-match tea and James Bond film afterwards.

The Blues swept Chigwell aside with one of their most complete displays of football in recent years, enjoying full control throughout the match. Notably, the side was magnificent in possession, with short and long passes finding their targets with metronomic regularity.

Luke de Rougemont opened the scoring after twenty minutes, converting a Lederman cross – the right winger enjoyed such a productive first half that the Chigwell left-back was replaced at half-time. De Rougemont was to double his tally in the second half but only after Ed Martins had scored Harrow’s second, closing down the Chigwell centre-half to force him into a mistake.

The sausage, chips and beans tea, coupled with The Spy Who Loved Me showing on TV in the bar was generally agreed to be the pinnacle of Arthurian League post-match teas and everyone returned to London in excellent spirits.

Four Seasons Ago: October 15th 2011

OHAFC 2nd XI 3 Old Salopians 2’s 1: A strong 2nd XI, led by veteran Jamie Waugh, proved too strong for Salopians’ second string on a blustery day on the Hill. The home side scored twice before the break, Brunt converting from the spot before Dave Stead doubled the lead just before half-time.

Youngster Alex Breeden confirmed the points with an excellent goal with twenty minutes remaining.

Three Seasons Ago: October 20th 2012

OHAFC 1st XI 3 Old Foresters 0: An excellent performance by the Harrow back four and Luke Raffety in goal ensured a rare clean sheet and three points against Forest on the Hill. Harrow lined up with a powerful central spine including Harder and Pepys in midfield and Defty and Stebbings up front and it was the two midfielders who scored the three Harrow goals.

Johan Harder opened the scoring on the half hour with a well-placed low strike but the home side had to wait until midway through the second half to extend their lead, Sam Pepys scoring twice in quick succession, both fierce, accurate shots from outside the box, the second a free-kick.

OHAFC 2nd XI 2 Old Etonians 2’s 2: A gutsy performance from the Harrow 2’s saw the side come from 2-0 down to level the game with 10 minutes to spare thanks to goals from Berry and Stead (the former being called into action early on following an injury to Trower).

The game also saw the keenly awaited return of skipper Jack Orr-Ewing, sidelined for the first two games of the season with a back injury.

Two Seasons Ago: October 19th 2013

Old Chigwellians 1 OHAFC 1st XI 1: An encouraging point for the Harrow 1’s thanks to Harry Hoffen’s second half strike. The visitors had been outplayed in the first half with Chigwell much the more confident in possession.

But a half-time switch to a more defensive shape saw Harrow first nullify Chigwell’s threat and then begin to impose themselves. The equaliser on the hour was the work of just two men, Johan Harder collecting the ball outside the Harrow box, striding forward and playing a perfect through ball for Hoffen to run onto and coolly fire past the ‘keeper.

Both sides then had chances to win the game but the draw was a fair result.

OHAFC 2nd XI 1 Old Epsomians 3: A poor performance from the Harrow second string as their inconsistent start to the season continued. After falling behind early on Dave Stead equalised on half an hour and Harrow were the better side as half-time approached.

But Jack Orr-Ewing’s men could not maintain the standard of play in the second half, conceding twice. Striker Anthony Beresford had the chance to reduce arrears from the spot but his miss ended any hopes of a comeback and left the Harrow 2’s with plenty to think about going into the Eton game.

Last Season: October 18th 2014

OHAFC 1st XI 3 Old Cholmeleians 2, Arthur Dunn Cup 1st Round: After three heavy League defeats to open the season, the Dunn Cup provided a welcome distraction for the beleaguered 1st XI and they took full advantage of the situation to deliver a first, albeit somewhat nervy, win against Cholms.

Two goals in the space of five first half minutes gave the hosts a cushion, Alex Breeden and Will Orr-Ewing the scorers. Cholms pulled one back but a third on the hour from Harry Hoffen proved vital, a late Cholms penalty insufficient to prevent Harrow progressing to the last 16

Old Cholmeleians 4’s 2 OHAFC 3rd XI 2:

The Harrow third string travelled to north London to face Cholms 4’s and were unfortunate to come away with just a point, a late equaliser from the hosts denying what would have been an excellent win. Striker Alex Smith opened the scoring early in the second half but a soft penalty gave the Cholms a simple equaliser. Ben Kerry continued his superb scoring start to the season with a header from an Ollie Feather free-kick, but just when it looked as though the trip home would be a happy one, Cholms caught Harrow off guard with a short corner and the ensuing scramble led to a simple finish

On this weekend…in the wider footballing world

October 17th 1973 proved to be the final night in charge of the England football team for World Cup winner Sir Alf Ramsey. Under his guidance England had won the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1966 and reached the quarter-finals in Mexico in 1970. Qualification for the 1974 finals should have been a formality but England arrived at their final group game against Poland at Wembley knowing that only a win would send them to West Germany. Disastrously, the hosts could only manage a 1-1 draw, with Polish ‘keeper Jan Tomaszewski performing heroically to deny a string of England efforts.

October 18th 2005 was a sad day for English football fans, but supporters of Fulham in particular. Craven Cottage legend Johnny Haynes, who only ever played for the Cottagers, died in a car crash. Haynes racked up 685 appearances for the Londoners and famously became the first ever £100 a week player after the maximum wage was abolished.
