Okoigun hat-trick propels 1st XI to key win
A Mike Okoigun hat-trick and a brace from James Breeden, including a Goal of the Season contender, helped the OHAFC 1st XI secure a vital 5-0 win away to the Old Marlburians on Saturday - in the process propelling themselves right back into the race for promotion.
Having suffered a dispiriting 7-2 thrashing on the Hill at the hands of the Marlburians back in October, the OHAFC 1st XI knew that this latest meeting was a must-win affair if the side were to harbour serious hopes of securing one of the top two spots in Division One.
And they responded accordingly, producing comfortably their most professional performance of the season to inflict Marlborough's heaviest defeat of the season. James Breeden scored twice inside the first quarter of an hour, one a magnificent strike into the top corner, and Okoigun scored a crucial third shortly before the break.
Although the second half was a more even contest, the visitors remained resolute in defence and two further efforts from Okoigun sealed a comprehensive win that lifts the side into third in the table, just a point behind the Old Reptonians.
