OHAFC Veteran quartet attend League Dinner
An illustrious quartet of OHAFC Veterans attended the annual end of season Arthurian League Dinner at the Grand Connaught Rooms on Friday May 20th, with skipper John Wyn-Evans proudly collecting the Derrick Moore Veterans Cup from former Newcastle and Coventry City striker Micky Quinn.
The OHAFC Vets produced several stirring displays to win the Cup back in April with an extra-time comeback triumph over Malvern in the first round followed by clinical defensive displays against strong Eton and Brentwood sides in the semis and final respectively.
The Veterans have been the Club's most successful side in the past five years with two Cup wins and further final appearances in both the Cup and Plate competitions, sadly losing to Eton on both occasions.
Also in attendance on Friday night were regulars Nick Warner and David Lederman and Club President Andy Butler, who this season saw more action as a spectator rather than a player.
Talksport host Quinn gave a most amusing speech that lasted the best part of three-quarters of an hour that covered his career in the north east and included several hilarious contretemps with various managers, not all of whom he saw eye to eye with.
Dinner was also excellent with a cured salmon and apple salad served early doors, a duo of duck either side of the break and a pear and almond tart in injury time.
Further good news arrived the shape of the Haileybury skipper, seated for logistical purposes on the Harrow table, who insisted on a regular supply of wine to the table - an odd move given that his side had been on the wrong end of a 10-1 mauling courtesy of Ed Poulter's 1st XI earlier in the season.
The dinner concluded the formalities of the 2015/16 season, a successful one for the OHAFC with the 1st XI earning promotion back to the top flight, the 2nd and 3rd XI's both finishing in the top halves of their respective divisions and the Veterans earning the Club yet more silverware.
