OHAFC Advent Calendar: December 17th
After Saturday's 1st XI defeat to Salopians, today we look back to a much happier occasion against the same opponents with a team photo from 2007 taken just after the side had won a titanic Dunn Cup semi-final 3-2 after extra-time.
The team had travelled the three-hour journey to Shrewsbury by minibus and were backed thanks to the extraordinary support of Fred and Jackie Woolley, who made their own way up north.
Things began well for the visitors when they took the lead towards the end of the first half, David Lederman curling in a free-kick from twenty-five yards out.
But the arrival at half-time of the hosts' star striker saw fortunes change in the second half and the Salopians were soon 2-1 to the good and looking likely to reach the final, Harrow unable to rediscover the fluency in their play.
A late substitution proved critical to the outcome of the tie, Ru Hoffen coming off the bench to head home a Lederman cross with minutes remaining and force the tie into extra-time.
The goal boosted Harrow morale and there looked to be only one winner in the extra thirty minutes: Paul Molloy thundered a shot against the bar in the first period, but Piers Bourke made no mistake in the second, firing home from a narrow angle to send the Harrow team into a first ever Dunn Cup final.
The journey home was a memorable one, although few of the pictures from the bus are suitable for public consumption.
