OHAFC 1st XI relegated
It wasn't quite death by a thousand cuts, but an inevitable outcome of relegation finally befell the OHAFC 1st XI on Saturday when they were comfortably beaten by a Charterhouse team once more confirmed as the best team in the Arthurian League.
The polarised trajectories of these two sides have been set for a while now with the visitors on Saturday continuing to churn out League and Cup victories with metronomic regularity whilst the OHAFC have, in truth, looked Division One-bound ever since losing the opening three League games of the season, conceding 19 goals in the process.
A lack of any pre-season, irregular availability and commitment and a plethora of injuries have, for the second season running, seen the standards of this once-great team nosedive and, in the process, produced some embarrassing defeats - the 10-1 loss at Charterhouse earlier in the season chief among them.
Once more on Saturday skipper Ed Poulter was forced to lineup with anyone he could lay his hands on and although the makeshift side performed creditably enough against their illustrious opponents, trailing by a solitary goal with an hour gone, the end result was never in doubt and three quick strikes inside the final quarter of an hour confirmed the title would remain in Carthusian hands and Division One football would be played on Harrow Hill for the first time since the 1999/2000 season.
