MBE for Club Legend David Barlow Buik
OHAFC Past President David Buik has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours, his official citation thus: “Financial Services Expert and Commentator, for services to Financial Services”.
David is a City businessman and for many years has been a financial pundit contributing frequently to the BBC and other British, American and Australian TV and radio channels. OHAFC members will have been treated to his highly polished words of wisdom on Wake Up To Money at 5.15am on Radio 5 Live. He is described on Twitter as 'an impecunious and humble commentator on global financial issues, deeply and irrevocably committed to the City of London.'
In footballing terms, David is regarded as the principal architect of OHAFC’s re-establishment in 1963.
He was the motivating force in the early days of the Club’s development and was instrumental in the OHAFC gaining entry to The Arthurian League in 1965 and re-entry to The Arthur Dunn Cup a year later.
The Club owes much to David’s vision and boundless energy which led to the well supported pioneering Easter Tour to Etretat in 1964, the inaugural Club Dinner in 1968 and the use of Hampstead Cricket Club for league football from 1973.
During his Presidency, from 1995 to 2001, he enticed racing pundit John McCririck to MC an OHAFC Race Night at the Bank of England Sports Centre and rewarded Annual Dinner attendees with a stand-up routine by impressionist Rory Bremner. David’s full OHAFC biography can be found in the website’s History/Club Legends section.
The OHAFC sends its heartiest congratulations to David on this wonderful and thoroughly deserved accolade.
Cheers David!
