Maydon and Stead call time on OHAFC careers

25 Aug 2015

2nd XI stalwarts Simon Maydon, 31, and Dave Stead, 30, have called time on their glittering 2nd XI careers to concentrate on family. The former is expecting his second child later this year whilst the latter, having recently got married, will be devoting more time to his better half.

Maydon, with an incredible 67 appearances since records began six years ago, has been a regular in the 2s back four. After jittery debut at right back vs Old Westminsters in 2010, then skipper Arjun Chopra switched Simon to the centre of defence. Immediately, the big man looked assured and solid - using his superior height and strength to dominate opposition strikers both in the tackle and in the air. In the same season, a timely 'man and ball' tackle in the early moments of a match versus rivals Aldenham set the tone for a dramatic 5-1 victory, cementing Simon’s starting place in the process. With Jack Orr-Ewing by his side for the majority of games, Mayday was part of a defensive unit which won the Junior League Cup against Charterhouse in 2011.

Stead has played in all four second string Arthurian League divisions throughout his OHAFC career. Despite suffering from various knee and ankle problems over the past six seasons, Dave managed to notch up an impressive 24 goals in 52 appearances. He appeared in both the winning 2006 and 2011 JLC final squads, meriting his selection for the former after an excellent contribution throughout the course of his debut season. His striking partnership with Mike Okoigun proved to be the best in the business. A career high for Dave came in a 3-2 win over Old Foresters in November 2012 where he bagged all three goals to secure Harrow the three points in a hard fought encounter. Dave was also 2nd XI Vice Captain for two years from 2013-2015.

The Club wishes both players luck with their future endeavours and hopes to see them return for vets football in the coming years.
