Lederman notches up landmark 300th appearance
OHAFC stalwart David Lederman racked up his 300th appearance for the club (since appearance data first began to be collected from the 2009/10 season) in Saturday's 2nd XI defeat away to the Old Alleynians 3s.
Whilst his overall figure for donning the navy blue shirt is probably closer to the 600 mark - having made his debut for the club whilst still a schoolboy midway through the 1992/3 season - the 50 year old continues to turn out for the Blues with the same enthusiasm as ever, although the body may finally be showing signs of waving the white flag.
A once flying winger, since dropping into the 2s back in 2016 Lederman has operated as a central midfielder, firstly in an attacking role, in recent seasons more defensively. This season, however, has seen the Vets skipper restricted by several niggling injuries and, as his fitness has declined, so too has his effectiveness - a superb long-range effort half an hour into the opening game of the season very much appears to have been the high mark of his campaign!
Whether or not he continues to play on into what would be his 34th season of Arthurian League football in September remains to be seen but his appearances total is unlikely to be overhauled any time soon. Since data started being collected in 2009, no other player has managed 200 appearances, although former 2s skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins will be very close to that particular milestone come the end of this season. Harry Woolley and Max Curry are the only other players to have made over 150 appearances for the club (163 & 152 respectively), putting Lederman's figure of 300 into sharp context.
