Improving 3s undone by Cholms

4 Nov 2013

The 3s turned up in good time for their game against Old Cholmeleians IV and so captain Azhar Khan had them doing their pre-match drills. It appeared to pay off as they experienced an exciting first half. Alec Fogarty played well at right back but was explosive on the wing when moved shortly into the game. Benjy Sewell came on 20mins in and scored 2 goals in quick succession, both were fine strikes from outside the area. Harrow were moving the ball around well and put the possession to good use with striker Alex Smith getting some great opportunities in front of goal. The captain was pleased to see the team playing good football. Vice captain Theo Gordon once again was solid in central defence and Jor-el Bajwa who played his second game at left back is proving to be an asset to the team. Ludo Callander made his debut OHAFC appearance and despite being an arm flapper he played well and will be needed going forward. Harrow were constantly on the attack and should have gone into the second half 4-0 up at the very least. Instead they kept allowing brief moments of sloppy football to creep in and the Cholmeleians had no problem capitalising which meant the score line was 2-2 at the end of first half. It was sad to see a well earned lead be given up so easily.

In the second half Nick Kapoor came off the bench and did well upfront but Harrow were now playing up the slope and into the wind, the team which looked so capable in the first half was non-existent. After a dodgy substitution from Cholms, they got a goal back to make it 3-2. 60 minutes into the game the 3s were mentally defeated which meant that even though there was 30 minutes left, a loss was guaranteed. Harrow’s failure to use the width of the pitch meant that they kept losing possession. The players ceased to communicate with each other and it was obvious to see.

The 3s have improved their standard of football with every game but if they do not improve their discipline they will struggle in weeks to come.
