Harry Hoffen suffers broken leg in Vets Cup tie
Legendary OHAFC striker Harry Hoffen suffered a broken leg in yesterday's Vets Cup quarter-final tie at home to the Old Malvernians at the Bank of England Ground in Roehampton.
Turning on the halfway line, he was caught by a stretching Malvernian defender who won the ball, but took Harry's leg at the same time. The striker collapsed to the ground in clear distress. Unable to move due to the pain, he was comforted by teammates and an ambulance called.
A local medic was on hand to offer basic advice but it soon became apparent that until the ambulance arrived there was little anyone could do.
The decision was made to continue the game on a nearby pitch with Malvernians scoring three late goals to triumph 5-2 after extra-time.
As the players returned to the dressing room, the ambulance was still next to the pitch where Harry had suffered his injury. He was transported to Kingston Hospital where x-rays later showed a double break, his tibia and fibula bones broken just above the ankle.
Doctors must now wait for the swelling to subside before they can operate, resetting the bones with plates and pins to allow the healing process to begin.
Everyone at the Club of course wishes Harry a full and speedy recovery.
Further updates on his condition will be released following his operation.
