Gutsy 3s fall short in thriller despite Page screamer

11 Nov 2013

Though playing at home, Harrow 3s were dressed in their red away kit, Old Foresters 3s in blue and the ref in black. Massively delayed, we were all eager to get started except Benjy Sewell who pointed out to the ref that he should be in yellow not black. So off Mr Hagger went, back to the Alcock to change whilst all 22 players stood awkwardly in their positions.

When the whistle went, Harrow got off to a flying start. It was Benji Sewell last match who put in two beauties and this week it was Ed Page, making his Club debut, who opened the scoring with a stunning strike metres outside the area. It was well received by the crowd and 2s captain Jack Orr-Ewing who had brought his boots along 'just in case'.

However, shortly after that Forest equalised to make it 1-1. Harrow were playing some lovely football, moving the ball around, keeping possession and using the width of the pitch as had been discussed before the game. Pom Beeley, making his debut for the Club, was a great addition to the team in midfield giving shape to the game. Pridham in his classic style made a run down the wing to put in a dangerous cross which lead to an own goal making it 2-1 to the OHs at half time.

Ludo Callander playing his second game for the 3s did less arm flapping and was solid along with his other defence brethren but Harrow couldn't stop Forest from getting 2 back and the game went to 3-2. Unlike the previous match, Harrow heads didn't drop, the fighting spirit that Captain Azhar Khan was so badly craving from his players came to light and the team fought magnificently, especially Alex Smith who playing with confidence up front made it 3-3 with a delightful chip. Chas McHardy was excellent in goal throughout the game but caught a bloody nose with 15mins to go and went off after a collision with the Forest number 7.

Harrow 3s who are looking better and better each game were unfortunate to concede a fourth goal. Though it resulted in a 4-3 loss, the morale remains high, the football is much improved and so the players welcome their next challenge at Mill Hill on the 16th.
