Mike Morley-Fletcher recovering well in hospital
The fourth annual OHAFC Festiphil competition, this year amalgamated with the Jubilee Cup, was sadly overshadowed on Saturday when veteran Mike Morley-Fletcher was suddenly taken ill at the side of the pitch during the final round of group games and, following a lengthy spell of treatment from paramedics, taken to Hammersmith hospital by ambulance.
Mike, who had earlier complained of feeling dizzy, was clearly in a bad way and at one stage had to be resuscitated by the quick-thinking Ed Poulter. Thankfully a team of paramedics who were stationed on the other side of the hill arrived in time to ensure he was out of immediate danger.
Mike now appears to be recovering well although he is being kept under observation for the rest of this week in Hammersmith Hospital. Naturally, everyone at the club sends Mike their best wishes for a speedy return to full health.
Given the circumstances, there was little appetite to continue with the football or enjoy the excellent BBQ the school had provided. Fittingly, the trophy was belatedly presented by club President Andy Butler to 1st XI skipper Poulter, with Ed's team ahead at the top of the table at the point the football was called to a halt.
Thanks are due to the school for hosting the event, Jaguar Bajwa for organising the football tournament and all the players for making the effort to attend.
Hopefully next year's event will be slightly less dramatic!
