Ed Poulter collects Charles Clover Brown award

22 Feb 2016

The 2016 OHAFC Players' Dinner took place at Mare Moto in Chelsea on Saturday night and saw 1st XI skipper Ed Poulter awarded the Charles Clover Brown salver for outstanding services to the Club.

The award was a surprise to the 1's skipper after it had previously been agreed among the Club hierarchy to present it elsewhere.

But Club chairman Quentin Baker, suitably dressed as a University lecturer, stepped up to hand over the famous salver in celebration of a decade worth of service from the defender.

Ed began playing with the 1st XI in the 2004/5 season and quickly established himself at centre-back as a tough-tackling, no-nonsense defender who liked to shout a great deal.

He played in the Dunn Cup final in 2007 and was a regular in the title-winning side of 2010, producing possibly his finest display in a Harrow shirt alongside Fred Milln at the heart of the defence in the 3-1 win over Charterhouse that all but sealed the title in the penultimate game of the season.

Ed has battled serious health issues over the past couple of seasons but was voted to take over as 1's skipper from long-time captain Baker in 2012 and despite suffering relegation last year, is on the brink of leading the team back into the Premier Division at the first time of asking.

Ed has been on one Easter Tour, the experience of sharing an 8-man dorm with, among others, Bobby Tindall in Hamburg in 2014 enough to dissuade him from making any further trips.

But perhaps Ed's greatest achievement as an OHAFC player was at the start of this season when he came to the rescue of veteran Mike Morley-Fletcher, who collapsed by the side of the pitch during the pre-season Festiphil tournament. Ed reacted immediately to administer CPR to Mike and ensure the paramedics could resuscitate him properly before the ambulance arrived. Thanks in no small part to Ed, Mike is on the mend once more.

Remarkably, for those who have played alongside Ed since he first joined the club, next season will see him eligible for Veteran status - great news for the OHAFC, pretty terrifying news for everyone else...

Well done Edward!
