Alleynians hold on despite 2s fight-back

9 Oct 2017

A strong second half fightback from the OHAFC 2s narrowly failed to earn the team a first point of the season as the Old Alleynians completed a League double with a 3-2 win on astroturf in Orpington on Saturday.

Things began poorly for the visitors when skipper Geoff Taunton-Collins collided with centre-half Simon Maydon after only a few minutes play and was taken to hospital suffering from concussion.

The first half remained a tight affair until a fifteen-minute spell saw the visitors concede three in quick succession, all of them in unfortunate circumstances.

The introduction of striker Gbeminiyi Soyinka saw the visitors on top in the second half however and after Alexi Pittalis had scored from a long throw, Soyinka converted a penalty after he was fouled inside the box and the comeback looked on.

Sadly, it failed to materialise. Both sides had chances in the closing stages but it was Alleynians who came closest to scoring another, hitting the post with a shot.

So a fourth straight defeat for the OHAFC 2s but this was by far the most encouraging performance of the season and the side can take heart going into the away game at Lancing next weekend.
