Doug Pratt represents England in Euros
Huge congratulations are due to OHAFC 2nd XI regular Doug Pratt who has just featured for the England Partially Sighted Team in the Futsal Euros in Turkey.
The 31 year old, who has just made his 50th appearance for the OHAFC in the 2s' 2-1 win over Old Berkhamstedians 2s on Saturday, played all five games in the five-team tournament, finishing as England's top scorer with six goals.
Ultimately, however, the England squad, led by manager Jon Tapia-Owens, were left disappointed with their bronze medal after a fine start that saw them beat the hosts 3-0 in their opening game - Doug scoring twice - before thrashing Italy 6-0, Doug again finding the back of the net.
That meant a win in either of their final two group games would almost certainly prove enough to earn the squad a place in the Gold medal match. But despite finding themselves level at 1-1 with thirteen minutes remaining in game three against Ukraine, England succumbed late on, conceding a flurry of goals to lose 5-1. And unfortunately Spain proved equally tricky opponents in the final group game, winning by exactly the same score, Doug netting the consolation effort.
That left England in the Bronze Medal Match and another meeting with the hosts. And, for the third game running, the scoreline read 5-1 - thankfully, this time, in England's favour. Doug finished in style, scoring twice, to ensure both he and the team ended the tournament in style.
Posting on his personal instagram following his return home, Doug said: "Honoured to be able to represent my country alongside such incredible team mates and staff at the Partially Sighted Euros last week. While we did come away with the bronze medal, it was not quite what we aimed for, but that is sport. We regroup, go again and come back stronger. Thankyou so much for all the amazing love and support!"
Many congratulations to Doug and the England team for their efforts.
