James Breeden hat-trick helps 1s topple League leaders
The eleventh hat-trick of James Breeden's fledgling OHAFC career - taking his tally to a remarkable 54 goals in 34 1st XI League appearances - helped fire the Blues to an impressive - and vital - 3-1 win over Division One leaders the Old Alleynians on the Harrow School Astroturf on Saturday morning. The victory not only marked the first time the OHAFC first team had beaten their opponents in four attempts, but it also propelled the side to their highest position in the table since the win over the Radleians all the way back in mid-October.
A strong first-half showing from the hosts saw them dominate the early stages and they led through a fine left-footed strike that flew into the top corner. Breeden scored his, and his side's, second soon afterwards, when Freddie Brunt's cross to the far post was headed back across goal by Mike Okoigun allowing a simple finish.
But the visitors grew stronger as the half wore on and reduced the arrears thanks to a fine curling shot that beat Fraser McGuinness in the Harrow goal.
The second half was one-way traffic, with the Alleynians cranking up the pressure. McGuinness made a number of fine saves and there was some wayward finishing from the visiting strikers before the points were sealed late on with a quick counter-attack, Doug Morrison squaring for Harrow's leading scorer to complete yet another hat-trick.
The OHAFC climb to second in the table with four games remaining - four wins would see them promoted back into the Premier Division following a two-year absence.
