A familiar face returns to OHAFC training...

6 Oct 2015

It was a case of old meets new at training on Tuesday night as former 1st XI centre-back Rowley Higgs, last seen gyrating frenetically on the dance floor at Barbarella's following the 2007 club dinner, was joined by new boy Alex Gwyther in an enjoyable and competitive 6v6 hour-long game played in persistent drizzle.

Rowley, or 'Ohhhh Roowwwwllleeeyyy' as he is more fondly known, started OHAFC life as a freshly-graduated dreadlocked weirdo in the 2nd XI who people were roundly suspicious of. As it turned out, the lanky Coventry City fan turned out to be a decent lad and just about good enough to make the step up to the 1st XI.

On Tuesday night he showed he had lost none of the pace he never possessed, although his touch remained as sharp as jelly.

Rowley was joined on the bibs team by new boy Alex Gwyther, about whom little or nothing is known. In truth, it's nothing. Although he does seem to have played football before and was generally seen kicking the ball in the right direction.

In a closely-fought encounter, bibs ran out 7-5 winners with Harry Hoffen scoring the final couple of goals with well-placed finishes.

Teams:

Bibs: Poulter, Hoffen, Gilbert, Khan, Higgs, Gwyther

Non-bibs: Richardson, T von Hirsch, Lederman, Taunton-Collins, Howells, Sert
