3s into DW Trophy quarters after shootout win

The OHAFC 3rd XI came through a dramatic penalty shootout on Saturday to see off the challenge of Foresters 3s and progress into the quarter-finals of the David Woolcott Trophy for only the second time in the club's history.

The two sides shared an entertaining 2-2 draw in the ninety minutes: Connor Barrett and Ned Callander scored for the hosts prior to half-time and the game should have been put beyond Forest's reach but the Blues spurned numerous chances, hitting the crossbar on no less than five occasions and seeing another four efforts cleared off the line!

Once Forest had levelled and the prospect of penalties loomed, skipper Nick Kapoor made a tactical change with midfielder Harry Bick replacing Chuka Ilogu between the posts.

The switch paid immediate dividends, with Bick saving Forest's first effort and from then on it was plain sailing, with the visitors only managing to convert a single penalty - Harrow scoring four to clinch their passage into the quarter-finals. It was the first time any OHAFC side had been involved in a competitive penalty shootout and keeps alive the prospect of a League and Cup double, with the side tantalisingly close to sealing the Division Five South division and the chance to earn promotion into Division Four.

The 3s' reward for Saturday's triumph is another home tie in the quarter-finals against Brentwood 3s in a fortnight's time. The side then face a League double-header against Westminster 2s the following week knowing that a win from either game would see them crowned champions. Should they finish top, the Blues would face a play-off against the team who finish second in Division Five North (likely to be either Old Albanians or Brentwood 3s) to earn promotion into Division Four.
