2s unlucky in narrow loss to Carthusians

3 Nov 2020

The OHAFC 2nd XI fought valiantly but ultimately without reward as they were consigned to a second League defeat of the season and a third consecutive loss in all competitions, Division Two leaders the Old Carthusians fortunate to come away from the Hill with a 2-0 victory to their name.

Playing into a strong wind and driving rain in the first half, the Blues weathered the storm (quite literally), although they were fortunate to escape when a couple of Charterhouse headers rattled the crossbar before being cleared to safety.

The second half began with little by way of incident, but three moments turned the game in the visitors' favour. From their first attack a fluke shot from the edge of the box sailed over Kyri Pittalis in the Harrow goal and dipped just under the crossbar.

A poor clearance from the Carthusian keeper then gifted Charlie Stebbings a gilt-edged chance to level but he was denied by a despairing lunge from the covering defender. Moments later the visitors earned themselves a dubious penalty when Pittalis was adjudged to have fouled a striker even though he appeared to cleanly collect the ball. The spot-kick was dispatched and the leaders held on to record the win.

The Blues remain in eighth in Division Two, still without a win to their name this season.
