2's set record as 3 pairs of brothers play together
There was an astonishing new record set on Saturday afternoon when, for the first time in OHAFC history, three sets of brothers took to the field at the same time in the same team.
Captain of the 2nd XI Jack Orr-Ewing and his elder brother Will have both represented the Club at 1st and 2nd XI for some years now and have played together a number of times.
But the inclusion of two younger brothers in the 2's lineup on Saturday meant that just under half the thirteen-man squad was made up of players from three families.
Max Curry has scored 13 goals for the 2nd XI in just over 30 appearances and he came off the bench to join younger brother Ollie following an injury to striker Dave Stead. Ollie, playing his fourth game for the 2's, looks to possess similar qualities to his brother, opening the scoring after twenty minutes and creating another for his sibling in the second half of the 5-0 rout of Malvern's 2's.
Meanwhile, making his debut for the Club was Conti von Hirsch's younger brother Tassilo, who enjoyed a highly-encouraging first outing on the left wing, using his pace and passing to cause numerous problems for the Malvern back four.
The closest the Club has come to fielding such a large number of related players in one team came in the 1990's when John Wyn-Evans was skipper of the 2's. Then, he regularly called upon two sets of brothers, Mike and Bobby Tindall and Jimmy and Mike Verdin. Further family ties were established between the 1st and 2nd XI's, with Nick Rae and Rob Thornton turning out for the 2's and respective brothers Gerry and Eddie for the 1's.
The prospect of further records being set remain this season, with Rupert and Harry Hoffen still on active duty, as well as Ludo and Ned Callander and Fred and Harry Richardson.
