2s rocked by loss to bottom of the table Winchester

Old Wykehamists II 3:1 Old Harrovians II

The side struggled to overturn a reasonable Winchester outfit after over a month without football.

In driving rain, Harrow spurned chances in the first half - Soyinka found himself through on goal on several occasions but failed to trouble the Winchester 'keeper. At half-time the score was 0-0, Pritchard only having had to make his first save moments before the break after a threatening corner met a Winchester head at close range.

The second half started slightly later than scheduled after the referee, Hugh Wylie, ran off the pitch and announced that 'he needed to finish his brandy' before play could recommence.

When the game finally got going, the pitch deteriorated significantly which seemed to favour the home side. John Portal, making his debut for the Club, got stuck in in midfield and showed some good touches. It was Winchester's day however, as 60 minutes saw the first goal fly in with a thunderous strike from outside the box. A second followed shortly after, as the Harrow defence allowed the Winchester no.15 to mosey through into the area and toe poke home. 2-0. Despite a heroic block from Orr-Ewing on the Harrow goal line, the side's misery was complete on 75 minutes after a beautifully struck Winchester free-kick hit the top corner of the net.

Phil Berry scored a well worked consolation after a brilliantly directed left footed cross from Cater was chested in at the far post.

The 2s now have a make or break game vs Kings Wimbledon next week. A loss will see the side relegated to Division 4.
