2s progress in JLC with Suttonians win
The OHAFC 2nd XI collected their first competitive win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Division Three strugglers the Old Suttonians to progress into round two of the Junior League Cup. Whilst the performance was far from stellar, there were moments of quality from the Blues, especially in an entertaining first half.
The hard-earned win was secured with a depleted XI that was missing several regulars due to either injury or self-imposed COVID isolation. Max Curry gave the hosts the lead just before half-time, turning in a cross from younger brother Ollie. Gbeminiyi Soyinka doubled the lead just before the hour-mark but the visitors fought back and took advantage of some sloppy Harrow play on the edge of their own box to halve the arrears.
Both sides hit the crossbar in a frantic passage of play that followed before Harrow keeper Charlie Walsh pulled off a magnificent save, diving to his left to palm a Suttonians effort onto the post and maintain the hosts' slender advantage. The Blues then enjoyed the benefit of a couple of tight penalty calls, with Soyinka earning a spot-kick at one end, which Lederman duly converted, before Ed David escaped at the other, the full-back just getting a touch on the ball before the Suttonian winger was sent flying.
Despite a late second for the visitors, the 2s held on to claim their first win of the season and a place in round two. The team must wait until the new year to discover who their opponents will be in the next round.
