2nd XI upbeat despite Brentwood loss
Brentwood II 5 OHAFC II 4
With skipper Jack Orr-Ewing absent and VC Dave Stead still out injured, Woolley took the team over to Essex for the second time in as many seasons. Having come back from Exeter uni, Charlie Stebbings was drafted into the side to play alongside the in form Curry. With Kerry, Bartlett and Amin unavailable, Alex Breeden was selected to play in midfield with youngster Matt Main.
Preparations for the game were scuppered after two players turned up two minutes before kick off. Harrow's twelfth man, who was due to start, only made it to the game after 70 minutes had been played...
A muddy, slow pitch played into Brentwood's hands from the start - the quick passing game which Harrow wanted to play was not feasible. Harrow went 1-0 down after Maydon and Will Orr-Ewing's attempts to pass out of defence were thwarted by the boggy surface. The Brentwood striker finished calmly. However, the away side responded straight from the kick off - the ball played to Woolley at right back who found Cater, the winger beat his man and crossed superbly for Stebbings to volley home. A goal of real quality.
A shocking moment for Woolley's team at the half hour mark when Brentwood scored direct from a corner - the ball somehow drifting past a number of players with Matt Main unable to clear on the goal line. Again, Harrow responded when a cross from the left was excellently controlled by Cater and slotted into the bottom right corner of Brentwood's net. 2-2 at half time.
The second half was tough for Harrow - uphill, into the wind with the surface deteriorating rapidly. The away side conceded early after a mix up between Orr-Ewing and Pritchard gifted Brentwood their third. The ball ricocheting kindly into the path of the Essex no.7. But it was 3-3 soon after following some superb work from Jack Robinson on the left flank. His cross found Stebbings who back-heeled home in impressive fashion.
Two quick goals knocked Harrow back again. Brentwood's fourth went in after Maydon slipped in the box and a fifth after a cross deflected off Curry's shoulder past the helpless Pritchard.
Breeden scored a well directed header from a Cater free kick on 75 minutes which was just reward for his excellent performance throughout the game. However, this proved to be the final goal of the game. Harrow went three at the back and piled men forward towards the end but the home side held on for some much needed points.
A tough loss to take after some good form of late. The team fought hard showing some good spirit but punctuality needs to improve before the team can call themselves genuine title contenders.
