2022 Clover Brown & Bert Worthy Awards

8 Jul 2023

Following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, the Club can now announce the latest winners of the Charles Clover Brown Award for outstanding commitment to the club and the Bert Worthy Young Player of the Year Award.

Both awards are for the 2021/22 season, with the winners from the 2022/23 campaign to be announced at the Club dinner in April 2024.

Fraser McGuinness wins the Charles Clover Brown Award following a ten-year OHAFC career that has seen the 1s goalkeeper make over 120 appearances for the club - a figure beaten by only four players since official records began in 2009. He made his debut in November 2014 in a 2nd XI game against the Old Malvernians in a 5-0 win at Harrow. Despite the scoreline, he produced an impressive display to keep a clean sheet and was soon being called up by both the 1s and 2s, going on to become the 1s regular custodian the following season. A vocal presence on and off the pitch, Fraser took over the 1s captaincy from Yunus Sert in the 2019/20 season, although his three years at the helm were badly interrupted by the Covid pandemic. Fraser has now returned to the ranks although will continue to don the gloves this season when required. Fraser was presented with the salver in July by club chairman David Lederman.

Will Payne wins the Bert Worthy Young Player of the Year Award following an outstanding season for the 2s. A lightning quick, tricky winger, 'Payno' has gradually imposed himself on the pitch and as his self-confidence has grown, so have the level of his performances. Will's outstanding campaign with the 2s saw him play 15 times for the side, scoring twice and creating numerous other goals. He deservedly earned a couple of call-ups to the 1s, with a permanent promotion to the senior side the following season. Following another consistent campaign in Division One, Will became the first OHAFC player since 2019 to appear for the Arthurian League Representative Team when he came on as a substitute in a 6-0 win over the Amateur Football Combination, providing two assists in the win that earned the Arthurian League side the Argonaut Trophy. Will was presented with the trophy by 1st XI skipper Dan Firoozan at the AGM in early June (pictured above).

Huge congratulations to both Fraser and Will.
